Dry Wash

A desert wash is usually dry but can fill with runoff during heavy rains. Some larger desert plants, such as palo verde (Cercidium florium) and smoke tree (Psorothamus spinosus), tend to grow in or near washes. The hard seeds may need the scouring action of rushing, churning water to help them crack and germinate.
