Mineral Sequence in the Cady Mountains

Stilbite is one of the more delicate and visually striking minerals found in the Cady Mountains of California’s Mojave Desert. A member of the zeolite family, stilbite typically forms in volcanic cavities, appearing in fan-shaped or sheaf-like clusters that look almost flower-like. Made of calcium aluminum silicate, its crystals often show a pearly luster and range from white to pink or orange, depending on trace elements. These soft, blade-like crystals grow as part of the region’s complex mineral sequence, a byproduct of ancient volcanic activity and the slow movement of mineral-rich water through rock. While stilbite may not be as hard as quartz or as colorful as fluorite, its graceful form and formation history make it a favorite among collectors and geologists. Each specimen is a small, natural sculpture shaped by the quiet chemistry of time.
