Old Spanish Trail/Mormon Wagon Road through the MojaveThis photo tour begins at the far northeastern edge of the Mojave system, just outside the desert in southeastern Utah at Mountain Meadows. From there it follows the route south to the Virgin River and on to Las Vegas, then turns west into the Mojave proper. The story of the crossing is a steady march from one salty waterhole to the next, from tepid river to tepid river, until the Cajon Summit is reached and the long, complicated descent is made through Cajon Pass into Southern California.
Part 1: Mountain Meadows south to the Virgin River, then on to Las Vegas.
Part 2: West over the ridge at Mountain Springs and into the Amargosa Desert -- Resting Springs, the Amargosa River, Salt Springs, and onward.
Part 3: From Bitter Springs to the Mojave River, following the river to the crossing northwest of the Rocky River Narrows, then out to the desert’s edge and down through Cajon Pass to complete the journey.
