A blinding fog kept One-Eyed Thompson and John Ramsey from getting to the Harrisburg gold strike. Rather than get lost, they made camp. As the fog lifted, they noticed the ledges looked interesting enough to file a claim. Later in 1906, Bob Montgomery bought the Gold Eagle claims. Over 400 people were living in Skidoo by March 1907. As mining activity ebbed and flowed over the next few years, the vein ran out in September 1917, and the mine closed. ![]() |
