Dead ironwood

Dead ironwood tree
Once established, desert perennials persist, and new plants must wait for a vacancy in the community. In the arid climate, dead wood could last for centuries. Termites help to break down dead plants and return nutrients to the soil. New seedlings can then get a foothold, continuing the cycle of life in this bajada community.
