Martin's Ranch came in very handy.The ranch located at the mouth of the Cajon Pass, a vital pass through the mountains, served as a way station for travelers. Travelers with horses or by wagons would stop there to water their horses, mend their wagons, and take some refreshments before getting back on their way. It was one of those very few spots along that stretch where you could get a little help if you needed it.
This ranch wasn't only for the aid of travelers but was, in fact, also one of the integral small parts of how Southern California began to grow. California was really wild back then, and places like Martin's Ranch helped bind up the state, facilitating the movement of people and goods.
